THRU OCTOBER 31: COOPERSTOWN CANDLELIGHT GHOST TOURS. Nightly tours from April through August and Monday,Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night in September and October. Tours feature stories about Hall of Fame, Christ Episcopal Church Churchyard and the famed house known as Grencrest. Sunday night tours spotlight the Otesaga. AUGUST 5,7,14,21: COPLAND’S-THE TENDER LAND. Written for a cast of young singers. The Tender Land is an ideal showcase for members of Glimmerglass Opera’s acclaimed Young American Artists Program. Aaron Copland’s second opera tells the bittersweet story of a young farm girl’s coming of age. Music Director Emeritus Stewart Robertson, who helped found the Young American Artists Program in 1988, returns to conduct a cast selected from the class of 201. AUGUST 6,9,15,22: MOZART’S “THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO” The plot of The Marriage of Figaro is a madcap maze of misunderstandings, disguises and machinations. At the same time, Mozart and Da Ponte, in their first collaboration, display a profound understanding of the human heart, from eager adolescent yearning to bittersweet recollection of a love lately lost, concluding with one of the most tender reconciliation scenes ever to grace the operatic stage. AUGUST 8,12,14,17,23: HANDEL’S “TOLOMEO” Tolomeo, the last opera Handel wrote for the royal Academy of Music, has never had a professional staging in this country until now. With this production, Glimmerglass continues its celebrated tradition of reviving important works by this early operatic master, whose gorgeous melodies, virtuosi vocal writing and intricate plots continue to enthrall audiences. 2pm. AUGUST 7: ART IN THE OUTDOORS - A FESTIVAL OF FOOD AND ART. Join Fenimore Art Musuem in a celebration of the relationship between artists and landscape. Offering one of the most spectacular Otsego Lake views in town, the museum’s back lawn is truly the perfect spot to experience landscape art in the context in which it was created. AUGUST 28-29: ANTIQUE ENGINE SHOW. Enthusiasts from the region join together to display restored gas engines and farm machinery of the past. On Saturday the Mill will hold its annual inventory reduction tent sale in conjunction with Fly Creek Day, a community-wide celebration with yard sales, food vending, entertainment and special activities.
