THRU February 22: A Taste of Trompe L'Oeil. Each Wednesday from 9 to 12, Nancy Catandella will lead, where students will create paintings which look good enough to eat!  Students will supply the subject matter-delicious treats and foods rich enough in color, texture and form to translate well into 2 dimensions. Students may be creative regarding the choice of painting surface, such as cabinet doors, small boxes, containers, etc. Acrylics will be used. Fee charged. The Woodstock School of Art. THRU February 24: Watermedia a "relaxing exploration of transparent watercolor through still life and design." Fridays join Saugerties watercolorist and printmaker Angela Gaffney-Smith as she shares her skills.  Angela will focus on how to keep color bright and clear. Watermedia meets each Friday morning from 9 to noon, from Jan. 6 through Feb. 24. Fee charged. The Woodstock School of Art. THRU February 24: Equine Ecorche. Keith Gunderson follows up on the success of Ecorche.with.a sculptural survey of equine musculoskeletal anatomy.  Students will be provided with armatures designed specifically for building the complete equine skeleton and its muscles in non-hardening clay.  There are plans to introduce an expert on horse anatomy to present to students, as well as bringing a live horse to campus as part of the course. Equine Ecorche begins Jan. 6 and is ongoing, throughout the year. Fee charged. The Woodstock School of Art. THRU February 24: Portrait in Clay. Taught by Gunderson, the class will provide the student with a "profound understanding of the structure of the human head in addition to those visualization tools that serve to deliver a likeness.  The class meets Fridays, 1 to 4, Jan. 6 through March 30. THRU February 25: Artful Use of What's At Hand. Polly M. Law, the bricoleur/artist will lead this class where students will explore the joys and challenges of working "from inside the heart to outside of the box," using personal symbolism, unusual materials, techniques and approaches.  Class meets Saturday afternoons, 1 to 4, beginning Jan. 7 and continuing through Feb. 25. January 15: Strawberry Hill Fiddlers. Featuring traditional & classical music and readings performed by young valley string musicians. 3 PM at the Saugerties United Methodist Church on the corner of Washington Avenue & Post Street. saugertiespromusica.org

January 16 – 20: Adventures With Color. Several new instructors are joining the team at the WSA, offering a wide diversity of classes in many fine arts disciplines.  Katharine L. McKenna will teach the 5 day color theory workshop. The artist guarantees the class will bring a visual awareness to color and which can help anyone use color in a more deliberate way in their paintings, crafts, and/or design fields. Fee charged. January 26 – 27: Painting With Acrylics. For those who've wanted to try their hand at the versatile medium of acrylics, long time oil painter Tor Gudmundsen, who has recently become a great fan of the medium, offers this two day workshop. Tor will share his strategies for working with acrylics' fast drying time and layering possibilities as well as tips for painting with this versatile, expressive and safe medium. Fee charged. February 1 – 22: Wall Sculpture. Jenne Currie will teach the four-day workshop on Wednesdays. Born of the marriage of painting and 3D construction, this medium allows the artist to engage in the mechanics of cutting and constructing, while also delving into the fundamentals of composition and color.
